Before Time

Do you ever wonder when time began? Sometimes I think that because questions like that are too big for us we tend to not think about them too much.

God’s Word says that before there was time, there was God. God refers to Himself as the first and the last, the alpha and the omega, and when Moses asked God who He was, God simply responded with, “I AM”. He was, is, and will continue to be. You see, God doesn’t think in human terms, and the Bible tells us that His ways are high above our ways. We think in terms of yesterday, today, and tomorrow, but God can’t be restricted by time, or else He wouldn’t be God. Would He?

Thus saith the Lord the King of Israel, and his redeemer the Lord of hosts; I am the first, and I am the last; and beside Me there is no God. (Isaiah 44:6)

God is outside of time and space. He created time, and sometimes we wonder how He can do this, or that, if we wonder about it at all. He created time! If He created time, certainly He can control what happens in it. God’s Word tells us over and over again that He reigns in sovereignty. That means that He is always in control, no stipulations, no exception, just God on the throne where He belongs.

God’s Word also tells us over and over again that we don’t need to be afraid. Why?

Bad stuff happens, horrible stuff happens, things need to get done, and we need to get things under control, right? Wrong. Bad things really do happen, and a lot of things do need to get done, but through it all God is still on the throne, and He doesn’t want us to go through life living in fear, or always worrying about what’s around the corner. That’s why He gave us His Word, in the form of the Bible, and in the form of His Son, Jesus Christ. Through Him there is no fear, and there is no worry, but there is always hope, and there is always mercy and love. In fact, there is everything that we really do need.

He is the Creator of time, He is the Creator of the universe, He was before it all, and He will continue to be after it all. He is our God, and nothing is impossible for Him.

I am the Lord, and there is none else, there is no God beside Me: I girded thee, though thou hast not known Me. (Isaiah 45:5)

I will go before thee, and make the crooked places straight: I will break in pieces the gates of brass, and cut in sunder the bars of iron. And I will give thee the treasures of darkness, and hidden riches of secret places, that thou mayest know that I, the Lord, which call thee by name, am the God of Israel. (Isaiah 45:2-3)

Thus saith the Lord that made thee, and formed thee from the womb, which will help thee; Fear not, O Jacob, my servant; and thou, Jesurun, whom I have chosen. For I will pour water upon him that is thirsty, and floods upon the dry ground: I will pour my spirit upon thy seed, and my blessing upon thine offspring: And they shall spring up as among the grass, as willows by the water courses. (Isaiah 44:2-4)
