The False Prophets Are Coming

What is a prophet?

One who delivers divine messages, or interprets divine will.  A prophet will speak out for a certain cause, and even make predictions about the future.

Many years ago there were many prophets whom God used to speak to His people.  When the people were disobedient, as people tend to be, God would give His prophet a message, and that prophet would warn the people, usually be telling them what would happen if they did not turn back to God in obedience.

There have also been false prophets; which means that they would act contrary to the truth, they would not be genuine, but deceptive, lying, and faithless.  Such prophets would look to turn people away from God for whatever reason.  Indeed they are coming, and are already here!

At that time many will turn away from the faith and will betray and hate each other, and many false prophets will appear and deceive many people.  Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold, but he who stands firm to the end will be saved.  And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.   Matthew 24:10-14

At that time if anyone says to you, ‘Look, here is the Christ!’ or, ‘There he is!’ do not believe it.  For false Christs and false prophets will appear and perform great signs and miracles to deceive even the elect—if that were possible.  See, I have told you ahead of time.  Matthew 24:23-25

But there were also false prophets among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you. They will secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the sovereign Lord who bought them—bringing swift destruction on themselves.  2Peter 2:1

But the beast was captured, and with him the false prophet who had performed the miraculous signs on his behalf. With these signs he had deluded those who had received the mark of the beast and worshiped his image. The two of them were thrown alive into the fiery lake of burning sulfur.  Revelation 19:20

And the devil, who deceived them, was thrown into the lake of burning sulfur, where the beast and the false prophet had been thrown. They will be tormented day and night for ever and ever.  Revelation 20:10

Then the LORD said to me, “The prophets are prophesying lies in my name. I have not sent them or appointed them or spoken to them. They are prophesying to you false visions, divinations, idolatries and the delusions of their own minds.  Jeremiah 14:14

Jesus Christ is the Way, the Truth, and the Life.  Truth is found in Him.

guide me in your truth and teach me, for you are God my Savior, and my hope is in you all day long.  Psalm 25:5

for your love is ever before me, and I walk continually in your truth.  Psalm 26:3

Jesus Christ will come again, for His body (church) who loves Him.

Look! The LORD is coming from his dwelling place; he comes down and treads the high places of the earth.  Micah 1:3

May God himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.  Thessalonians 5:23

Concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our being gathered to him, we ask you, brothers, not to become easily unsettled or alarmed by some prophecy, report or letter supposed to have come from us, saying that the day of the Lord has already come.  Don’t let anyone deceive you in any way, for (that day will not come) until the rebellion occurs and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the man doomed to destruction.  He will oppose and will exalt himself over everything that is called God or is worshiped, so that he sets himself up in God’s temple, proclaiming himself to be God.  Thessalonians 2:1-4

Watch!  The Lord holds the reward for those who are ready.

These are the words of him who holds the seven spirits of God and the seven stars. I know your deeds; you have a reputation of being alive, but you are dead.  Wake up! Strengthen what remains and is about to die, for I have not found your deeds complete in the sight of my God.  Remember, therefore, what you have received and heard; obey it, and repent.  Revelation 3:1-3

Do not be deceived.  The end is coming quickly.  Turn to the Lord Jesus Christ, the Author of our faith, who paid for our salvation upon the cross.  The journey does not end at the cross.  Turn to the Lord, be sanctified, and be ready.

If there arise among you a prophet, or a dreamer of dreams, and giveth thee a sign or a wonder, and the sign or the wonder come to pass, whereof he spake unto thee, saying, Let us go after other gods, which thou hast not known, and let us serve them; Thou shalt not hearken unto the words of that prophet, or that dreamer of dreams:  for the Lord your God proveth you, to know whether ye love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul.

Ye shall walk after the Lord your God, and fear Him, and keep His commandments, and obey His voice, and ye shall serve Him, and cleave unto Him.  And that prophet, or that dreamer of dreams, shall be put to death; because he hath spoken to turn you away from the Lord your God, which brought you out of the land of Egypt, and redeemed you out of the house of bondage, to thrust thee out of the way which the Lord thy God commanded thee to walk in.  So shalt thou put the evil away from the midst of thee.  Deuteronomy 13:1-5

    Hi Dave,

Indeed it is true that the false prophets are here today in our world. As I ponder on the word “prophets”, I try to link it to the prophets mentioned in the Bible in the Old Testaments, like Elijah, and compared it today’s “prophets”. And it is amazing that I can find them everywhere. The false prophets of today may be exactly like the prophets in the Old Testaments, basically in the New Testaments, those who do not believe in the word of God and twisted the truth according to their desires which result in leading others away from the faith are the false prophets of today.

In our cultures, it is fortune-telling, witchcraft, fengshui, and etc. There are believers who prefer to leave their future in the readings coming from such sources rather than seeking the truth from the Bible and trusting God.

We definitely need to guard against false teachings that are creeping into our life, our thoughts, our listening, our seeings today, more than ever.
