If There is One Thing That God Hates…
God does not hate His people. But if there is one thing that He does hate, it is a lukewarm heart.
That term is pretty self explanatory isn’t it?
Lukewarm; it’s not quite hot, but not quite cold either. It’s just in between.
If a husband tells his wife that he loves her, yet doesn’t back up his words with any action, his wife doesn’t really feel like she is loved. That’s lukewarm.
If a worker does his work carelessly, just hoping to get to the end of the week, the quality of work may be okay, at best. That’s lukewarm.
If a father makes promises to his kids, yet is never there for them when they need him to be, they feel disappointed and left out. That’s lukewarm.
Sometimes we get lukewarm don’t we? It’s never a good feeling, but sometimes we even get lukewarm toward God! We read God’s Word just to get it done, we go to church just because it’s part of the schedule, or we seek God half heartedly in prayer.
How did it get like this?
There could be many reasons, but it’s not about religion, it’s about a relationship. God wants all of us; our bodies, our minds, our hearts, our attention, our time, our love, basically all that we are. He wants all of it! We should be more than willing to give it, for redemption was a high price indeed.
Nobody enjoys a lukewarm person. Should we not be more than lukewarm for God?
God loves us with all that He is. Let’s return to Him, and give Him all that we are.
-Am I lukewarm towards God?
-What can, or does cause me to become lukewarm?
-What reasons do I have to be on fire for God?
Seeking ====> Lord, forgive me for being lukewarm towards You! Turn me back to You. Give me the strength to keep anything from driving a wedge between our relationship. I am Yours, and I want to give You all that I am. Draw near to me, fill my heart with a burning desire to know You more intimately, to follow You closely, and to live for You, to the praise and glory of Your name. Amen.
“These are the words of the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the ruler of God’s creation. I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or the other! So, because you are lukewarm—neither hot nor cold—I am about to spit you out of my mouth. You say, ‘I am rich; I have acquired wealth and do not need a thing.’ But you do not realize that you are wretched, pitiful, poor, blind and naked. I counsel you to buy from me gold refined in the fire, so you can become rich; and white clothes to wear, so you can cover your shameful nakedness; and salve to put on your eyes, so you can see. Those whom I love I rebuke and discipline. So be earnest, and repent. Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with him, and he with me.
