For the most part, list building is nothing personal, at least as far as I have seen.  I tried doing the list thing at one time, and it was just not for me.  I know all kinds of marketers use the list and earn an income from it, but there are several reasons why I despise this method of marketing.

If you are familiar with list building, then you know that you need an autoresponder which sends out daily, or weekly emails to whomever signs up for your list.  People only sign up for your list in order to get something out of it.  You offer something for free, some kind of online resource of some kind and people opt in to receive it.

The thing is, after you sign up for a few of these things, your inbox starts to pile up with emails from other marketers who are mainly just trying to make some affiliate commissions.  For the most part, I don't even read most of these emails after awhile because they just get so time consuming, and reading email just becomes more of a hastle.  If the title is lame it gets deleted as quickly as spam.

Another thing is, all of the people that are a part of this list, if it is in the internet marketing niche, are also internet marketers.  They are trying to do practically the same thing, which is make money online through whatever methods.  They probably don't need to buy whatever it is you are trying to sell, they just need to learn how to make more money online.  Also, depending upon what you are selling, they may even be able to get it themselves and earn their own commission if it is a product from Clickbank.

People have said that the autoresponder is one of the greatest things online because you can keep in contact with customers or potential customers.  However, I do not believe that is the case.  Most people use email marketing just in order to make a few extra bucks in affiliate commissions.  It's really lame.  I have deleted so many emails, and removed my name from so many lists, simply because I was just being used in order to gain a few more bucks.  Everyday or two there would be another email offering me some great product that I needed, that had been personally tried and tested.  Not only that, but the person sending me the email was good friends with the creator of the product and I was ensured the best deal.

This was all total bull.  Email marketing may have been invented in order to keep in contact with customers and potential customers, but this is not what is going on in the online world today.  I have no desire to be another one of these marketers just looking for a few bucks from my list.  I have no desire right now to create a list, but if I did; it would be personal, it would take a lot of time to create, and it would be a way for me to connect with my visitors and customers.

If I joined a list, I would expect to recieve helpful information that was relevant to what I wanted to do and learn.  If I joined a list, I would expect to create a relationship with the person on the other end, that did not simply revolve around how many sales they could get out of me.  For these reasons I do not join lists, or I leave the ones I had joined in the past.  Are there any lists out there that are like these?  If there are, I haven't found them.

Just another reason why I prefer social media marketing, or even article marketing as ways to increase my presence and my business.

What do you think about list building, or email marketing?  Is it for you?  Do you enjoy it?  Are you successful through this means?
