It is widely believed that in order to start a home based business, one must have a lot of money to invest, or a lot of knowledge to put into action.  While these things would give your home business an advantage right out of the gates, they are not initially necessary.  It is very possible for anyone to begin a home business for free, while having very little knowledge in the area as well.  

There are many ways that you can make money online for free:

• Start a WordPress blog and market products and services
• Write articles about products or services and submit them to article directories
• Enhance websites for others with SEO
• Create eBooks
• Write a press release about a product or service
• Create websites for others
• Write articles for others
• Set up websites, pages, or templates for others

Most people will tell you that having your own website is the best way to market your business, and I will tell you no different. When you have a website, you have the ability to control what you promote. This will not be free, but it won't break the bank either. You can get webhosting for less than $10 a month, and you can find templates for your new website for free. If you are not familiar with all of the technical stuff regarding setting up a website, you can research it online, or you can simply pay a small fee to have someone do it for you. There are even some programs that will set up your website for you, like the Plug in Profit Site, and all you will need to pay is the monthly hosting costs. 

Marketing does not have to cost you an arm and a leg. Everyone loves free marketing methods, and there is no need to be pressured into buying something to help market your business if you don't really need it. There are many good marketers out there, mainly selling things to help you promote or expand your business. It can be very tempting to take advantage of their offers, but if you are trying to build your business on a budget, then you don't really need any of that stuff. Some of the most popular, and free, forms of internet marketing are:

• Blogging
• Article marketing
• Social media marketing
• Link building
• Press releases
• Posting in forums

Once you have your own website set up, and you are incorporating various free marketing methods into your business, you will need to begin to test your advertising methods. If you are running free ads, you will need to change them up one at a time, to see which ones are working for you and which ones are not. If you are writing articles, you will want to see how may people are reading those articles, and how many are following the resource box to your website. You may end up having to come up with a better title, or a better resource box in order to attract more people to your site. Testing and re-testing will always benefit your business because it will allow you to see what is not working so well for you, and then you can make the necessary adjustments to make it work better.

There are all kinds of legitimate work at home jobs, and ways to make money online for free.  You simply need to choose one that will work for you, and commit to sticking with it.  When you jump from one opportunity to another, you get less and less work done, and you will see fewer and fewer results.  Starting a business for free is very possible, and may be extremely useful depending upon your situation in the current economy.  With less and less work outside of the home, more and more people will be looking for ways to make money from home, and start their own home businesses.
