Mixx is now a little more than a year old, perhaps even a year and a half.  At just six months time, Mixx was boasting a PR6 in the social media world, and has not stopped since.  Right now, Mixx is an authority site with an incredible PR8.  There are many reasons why you should be a part of the Mixx community.  If you haven't been at Mixx, just where have you been? 

If you are familiar with many of the social media sites around the web, then you will probably notice that although Mixx and other sites share similar qualities, they are not quite the same at all.   We know that most social sites allow bookmarking, but what most sites do not have is a strong community, if they have one at all.  We all love bookmarking sites, but there's so much more interaction that goes on in a place like Mixx.  

If you have been a part of Mixx since it emerged then you know what I'm talking about.  An authority site doesn't happen out of nowhere.  People are drawn to sites like Mixx.  Why?

No Friends Discrimination

In Mixx you can have all the friends that you want.  Make a goal for yourself; 100 friends, 500 friends, 1,000 friends.  If you add someone as a friend, they will generally reciprocate, and it should be quite possible to achieve the friends goal that you set for yourself.   Also know that the Mixxers who have been around for a long time will still reciprocate friendship.  Newbies can be friends with super mixxers, award winning mixxers, and just plain any mixxer there is.  Add some friends now and stop being so anti-social. 

Awards for Mixxing

It's true!  In Mixx daily awards are given out to a number of different mixxers.  There are awards for submitting, commenting, polling, and just being active.  There are at least 14 different awards that can be won, not to mention the super mixxer award.  I've got no authority to tell you what it takes to get the super mixxer award, but I know it's a mixxer who gets a lot of things done on Mixx in any 30 day period.  Super mixxers receive a few quality privileges that regular users don't have, but I wouldn't know anything about that.  Personally, I've been in Mixx since it began and don't have a single award.  For shame, I know.  I'm not usually as active as I'd like to be, but I have heard that anyone has the possibility of becoming a super mixxer, so maybe I still got a chance.  I guess we don't really need awards and special privileges, but it's always nice to be noticed, eh?  

More Traffic

Since Mixx is an authority site, you better believe that your interesting submissions will get noticed and receive more traffic.  You will receive direct traffic from Mixx itself, and if you have properly submitted a url, you should also see more organic traffic from the search engines.  If you aren't getting more traffic, then either you aren't doing it right, or you just aren't submitting anything that interesting.  Submit some cool stuff, and if you did the friends thing like I told you too, that stuff will get noticed.  

Adding Keywords

In any social site keywords are important, and in Mixx it's no different.  Adding keywords to your articles and submissions is another way to get stuff noticed, as well as getting more links pointing back to that stuff as well.  You can use as many keywords as it takes to describe whatever it is you are submitting.  What's that?  Mixx only allows 8 keywords with every submission?  Yes, they allow 8 keywords at a single time.  After you submit a url, you are free to add 8 more keywords.  If that's not enough, go ahead and add 8 more.  I guess it's setup that way to decrease keyword stuffing, so make sure that all of your keywords are related to whatever you are submitting.  If one of your keywords happens to be Brittany Spears, and you are submitting an article about email marketing, someone's not going to be happy.  Use proper keywords, and your stuff will have a better chance of getting noticed.  

Create and Join Communities

This is another great aspect of Mixx.  Join as many communities as you want, and submit urls to those areas as well.  You are even free to create communities of your own, which is something you should definitely take advantage of right now.  More communities equals more exposure, which means more traffic for everyone.  Build a community, invite your friends if you ever did the friends thing I told you to do a while ago, and customize it as much as you like.  With your own communites, it will be much easier to interact with those who are submitting things that you are also interested in, as well as making your stuff more noticeable to others.  

Don't Forget to Vote and Comment

Voting and commenting is an important part of any social site.  Well, except for those sites that don't allow it, but I guess just bookmarking is cool too.  Anyway, social sites with strong communities thrive on voting and commenting.  This is what makes the whole thing work.  Things get voted on, people comment, and then they rank well based on the personal opinions of others.  This is why social sites can be better than search engines.  Search engines rate material based on algorithms, whereas social sites rate material based on what people like.  This is exactly why some people think that social sites will make search engines obsolete someday.  It should be much easier to find what you are looking for in a social site where people have rated it, as opposed to a search engine where the results may be manipulated in some way.  

The Mixx Store

Oh you didn't know?  Well now you do.  Mixx has a store.  Support the number one social site of all time by drinking your coffee out of a Mixx mug, while wearing your Mixx cap and Mixx shirt.  I'm not sure if anyone buys this stuff, but I thought it was cool that they had a store.  Hey, if you need a new mousepad because yours is all old and decrepit, you can at least get one of those.  

I don't know about you, but for all of these reasons I see Mixx as the best of the best.  Sure there are other great social sites out there, but they just don't compete.  Hey, if social media sites really do take over for search engines someday, I believe that would put Mixx at a PR10, and drop Google down to a PR8.
