Digg Says:

"Digg is a place for people to discover and share content from anywhere on the web. From the biggest online destinations to the most obscure blog, Digg surfaces the best stuff as voted on by our users. You won’t find editors at Digg — we’re here to provide a place where people can collectively determine the value of content and we’re changing the way people consume information online.

How do we do this? Everything on Digg — from news to videos to images — is submitted by our community (that would be you). Once something is submitted, other people see it and Digg what they like best. If your submission rocks and receives enough Diggs, it is promoted to the front page for the millions of our visitors to see."

Dave Earley Says:

Digg could have very well paved the way for all of the social sites we know today, as it is one of the oldest and most popular sites on the net.  Digg is a very user friendly site, yet it is also very basic.  Users can add friends, submit content, vote, comment and send out shouts to their friends.  That's about it.

Digg is run by more than just a select few unlike most social sites.  Digg was founded by Kevin Rose, and the many people that are behind the scenes are led by Jay Adelson, who is also the CEO of Equinix, a billion dollar company.

Digg is a great site for bookmarking and gaining more "dofollow" backlinks.  By gaining more friends you can get your stories to the front page and recognized by more people.  By using the shout function you can alert your friends about any submission that you would like to be Digged.  The only bad thing about that; the more friends you have, the more shouts you receive.  Eventually it kind of becomes more of an annoyance and you may have to turn the function off.

Digg has been known as more of a controversial site.  Users have been banned for a number of reasons; "spamming", poor content, and negative content toward Digg itself.  If you have anything negative to say about Digg, better not submit it for Digging if you would like to retain your Digg status.  If not, then feel free to go nuts.

Overall, Digg has been very popular since it began and may arguably be the most popular social site to date.  The user friendly experience and intriguing stories attract more people, and the "dofollow" backlinks are also a big plus.  However, Digg still remains to be a very basic site compared to some of the other sites that are out there.
